Looking Back on 2025 — And What’s Ahead for 2026

Apptegy Clients,
This past October at our SchoolCEO Conference, I had the chance to share where Apptegy is headed and why we believe this moment in K12 communication is so important. As we close out the year, I’ve been reflecting on what we accomplished together in 2025, the conversations I’ve had with so many of our clients, and how our industry will continue to evolve in 2026.
Across K12, the story hasn’t changed: funding is uncertain, competition from school choice is real, and a new generation of parents expects communication that’s instant, mobile-first, and seamless. To keep up, many districts have added more tools — more apps, more logins, more new products in front of families.
At Apptegy, we’ve chosen a different path. Our mission is simple — to empower school districts to engage meaningfully with their communities. We believe your district deserves:
One central place — a connected front door where conversations begin, and work gets done.
Your brand, not ours — your website, your app, your messaging, your story.
Easy, intuitive tools — technology that feels simple so staff can focus on people, not platforms.
In 2025, every major product decision was rooted in those principles.
What We Built Together in 2025
This year’s back-to-school launch was the biggest in Apptegy’s history, and the results show that better experiences lead to stronger engagement. Throughout 2025, we focused on three big areas:
One place for conversations
We reimagined navigation for guardians and staff so they can find messages, announcements, and classroom updates in one place. Our new global messaging experience brought together conversations across classrooms, teams, and roles, making it just as natural to hear from a coach or nurse as from a teacher.
Districts using our two-way messaging tool in both 2024 and 2025 are now seeing:
30% more users active on the platform year over year,
35% more guardians sending messages, and
Nearly 2x more guardians viewing classroom announcements.
Safer, smarter communication
We introduced AI Moderation as a constant safety layer across messages, images, videos, and voice. It quietly monitors content in real time and helps districts prevent issues before they reach students — turning safety from a feature into a core expectation.
We also expanded the ways families stay connected to your district. SMS notifications for announcements and messages give parents more ways to follow what’s happening in your schools. And because these alerts are sent automatically, even to families who haven’t created an account, your messages can reach everyone, not just the families already plugged in.
The impact is clear: mobile web traffic is up 150% year over year, driven by simpler, more accessible communication.
Everyday work made easier
Some of our most meaningful work this year showed up in the small moments that staff and families feel every day.
The launch of Smart SMS now allows staff to write naturally and let the system handle formatting, links, and previews. A new guardian app design that now makes it faster to find the information that matters most, and a completely relaunched newsletter experience with better templates, real-time collaboration, and a more polished experience on email and mobile. Finally, Premium CMS templates and accessibility tools like AI-Powered Alt Text Generation help every district look professional and serve every family with a quality experience.
These changes all serve the same purpose: to make it easier for school staff to communicate clearly and confidently with their communities.
Looking Ahead: 2026 and Beyond
A new year is upon us and we're thinking about what's next. Here are three shifts we believe will define 2026, and how districts will lead the change.
Communication must become easier and truly unified.
Districts have heard “all-in-one” for years. Next year, they will expect it to be real. Apptegy offers the most seamlessly integrated platform on the market today, but in 2026, we’re further enhancing how our tools work together so communication requires fewer steps, creates less clutter, and makes it easier for every staff member to reach families quickly and effectively.
Internal communication needs equal attention.
At last year’s NCE conference, every communications leader pointed to the same issue: internal communication — staff-to-staff, school-to-school, and district-to-staff — is harder than it should be. If external communication can be unified, districts will start expecting internal communication to be too. We’re committed to helping districts keep teams informed, aligned, and connected with the same simple, safe experience they use to reach families.
Automated tools will replace manual, reactive work.
With higher expectations and limited staff capacity, we expect districts to lean into automated and proactive capabilities to save time, reduce repetitive tasks, and prevent issues. As a result, we’re continuing with our AI-driven innovations to ensure you can share updates more broadly, and quickly – and get ahead of challenges so you can focus on building trust and driving stronger outcomes.
These shifts are already helping our teams imagine new features and products we can deliver to districts next year. We have exciting plans for 2026, and we can't wait to share more in the new year.
Our Commitment
In closing, we’ll end where we began — with our mission.
Every day, our product, design, and engineering teams wake up focused on one goal: helping school districts communicate more effectively with their communities. We believe your district’s online presence should be the trusted, central place where conversations begin and work gets done — all in one easy-to-use, branded experience.
We also believe that when districts communicate clearly and consistently, communities grow stronger — families feel more connected, staff feel more aligned, and students feel more supported.
Thank you for trusting us with your district’s story and your community’s attention. It’s a responsibility we take seriously, and a partnership we deeply value.
We’re proud of what we built together in 2025, and we’re even more excited about what’s coming in 2026.
